OHH Auxiliary Pink Ladies and Kathrine Atchley

Our beloved Kathrine Atchley celebrated her 99th birthday Oct. 21 with her children and grandchildren—most of whom returned to Olney for the special occasion. Everyone who knows Mrs. Atchley is aware of her love for Olney Hamilton Hospital, founded by her father George B. Hamilton in 1927.

Mrs. Atchley said her father taught her many things by showing her as opposed to simply telling her. She said one of her best life lessons was visiting the Hospital with him. Her involvement with the Hospital began at a young age and has continued through generations.

“My father had a uniform made for me, and he would ask me to go to the Hospital with him to comfort patients. He taught me to be kind to people and recognize them. We shared a love for the Hospital,” Mrs. Atchley said. “When I married Glenn, he told everyone, ‘when I married Kathrine, I married the hospital, too.’ He learned to love the Hospital as I do.”

In celebration of Mrs. Atchley’s 99 years, please consider purchasing a memorial brick for her Memory Garden located in front of the gazebo at Hamilton Hospital. The memory garden is something Mrs. Atchley has wanted to do for a long time. The garden will serve as a sanctuary offering a quiet place for patients, families, friends, and neighbors to reflect on the lives of their loved ones. Mrs. Atchley laughed and shared what she wants people to say when they sit in her garden and reflect on her life, “’ That is one gal that had a good life and a good time.’ I have had a wonderful life, and I am thankful for that.”

Help us honor Mrs. Atchley’s legacy by purchasing one or more bricks for $40.00, and you may engrave up to three lines of text. The proceeds will help the Hamilton Hospital Auxiliary fund a variety of projects for the Hospital. As one of the original Auxiliary members, Mrs. Atchley is excited for the community to raise money to help Hamilton Hospital, which she holds close to her heart.

The order forms are available at the Hospital’s gift shop, Lunn Funeral Home, OHH Administrative Assistant Grace Perez and Olney Enterprise Newspaper. For your convenience, you may use the order form below.
