First Baptist University is offering a 10-week Bible Study beginning Jan. 12

First Baptist Olney will be offering another 10-week Bible study this winter on the first 13 chapters of Matthew. The study will begin January 12 and will end on March 29. The class will be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. each Sunday evening on the FBCO campus. The cost of the course is $7 per person to help cover the costs of printing workbooks. All are welcome to attend the study. You will find that the homework will be challenging. If you have a desire to understand Scripture on a deeper level and have Bible-focused fellowship with a small group of believers who love God and His Word, this study will meet those needs. The course will require you to spend several hours per week of individual homework in addition to the Sunday night meetings.

The goal of the class is to teach you how to comprehend, interpret, and apply the text to your life. We believe that the study of Scripture is the way that God transforms our lives to make us more like Jesus.

This unique course is composed of three key elements: personal study, group discussion, and teaching time (in that order). Not only will you become a better Bible student, but the study will also provide you with fellowship as you participate in this unique style of learning.

Unfortunately, this sort of study is not often offered at churches because most church members have grown used to passively receiving teaching instead of actively engaging in learning the Bible. Although 20-30 percent of those who begin the course will find it too challenging or time consuming, those who finished the course last fall said it was one of the most worthwhile things they have done in church. FBCO University is a learning setting that will require you to personally study and do some thinking about what God’s Word says. That may seem scary, but you won’t be alone. Your small group will think through a passage together each week, and then one of our teaching pastors will pull all the puzzle pieces together in a large group setting.

You don’t have to know anything about the Bible to participate in FBCO University. You just need a good attitude and a willingness to study and learn. Child care is available up to 5th grade. 6th grade and up will participate in the study.
