DEVOTIONAL

“ Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NASBS

How gracious it is when the light of God’s heavenly words shines upon the sinner’s heart saying, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” It was the Father’s good pleasure for those Whom He loved to send His only begotten Son into this restless world to save sinners, of which I am the foremost. Apart from being awakened by the Holy Spirit, the weary soul seeks to find rest in this sensuous world to no avail. So many turn to religion. They drape a cross around their neck and run into the waters of baptism. They clean the outside of their life up, but on the inside, they are full of dead man’s bones. They run this course for a time, just to find at the end of the race they are twice the sons of hell as they once were. Oh, how weary this road is. It leads to laws that cannot be kept and tasks that cannot be performed.

On the other hand, many turn to sinful pleasures, evading the warning of their conscience, seeking to satisfy all the worldly lust that lies hidden in their deepest affections. After a short time, they find it is like a bottomless pit that drives them to despondency and deeper into the depths of their misery. This too is a never ending current that leads to horrifying addictions that ravage the soul, blind the eyes of their heart, and carries them into the eternal fires of hell. For the scriptures tell us, whoever wants to save his life in this world will lose it, but whoever loses his life for the sake of Christ will find it.

Dear reader, I must be free from your blood; I am telling you the truth in Christ, I am not lying. There is salvation in no one else but Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved. For Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many. For Christ died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit. Christ is the only hope that you have. So, you who are embellishing in your iniquity, will you trade eternity for the pleasures of sin which will never bring you true contentment?

Look at the world around you and see what condition it is in. Murder is in the street, violence is on every corner, pornography rules the internet, suicide is rapidly climbing, drugs and alcohol are destroying the homes, and children are being taught that they are gender neutral until they decide what they want to be. Human beings are the pinnacle of God’s creation, having within them a mind that is far superior to anything created here on the earth. Yet when man turns from the truth of God’s written word, he becomes debased. His reason becomes corrupted and his wisdom lower than that of mere animals. No one would even consider gender neutrality when it comes to what type of dog or cat they would like to have. I ask you, where does it end? Today, repent and believe in Christ. Listen once again to the melody of The Lord’s words, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”
