DEVOTIONAL

“For My hand made all these things, Thus all these things came into being,” declares the LORD. “But to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.”

THE REFUGE

Isaiah 66:2 NASBS

The Lord is a mighty warrior, and His throne is in heaven where He rules all of creation, who can truly understand Him? He holds the scales of justice in His hands, and though He is gracious and merciful to the humble of heart, He will not allow the wicked to go unpunished. He has set a day in time that cannot be altered when He will judge the secrets of the human heart and bring to light that which has been hidden. Those with a proud heart and a haughty spirit, who refuse to bow the knee to The Lord Jesus Christ, will one day stand before the Lord of hosts in all His glory and beg for the mountains to fall upon them.

Who can stand before this holy righteous God apart from divine grace, for He is the One true God Who created all things. He, by His might, clinches the wind in His fist, He ascends to the highest mountain tops where no human foot has ever stood, and He set the boundaries for the mighty oceans. As surely as I sit here this morning gazing upon the beauty of The Lord’s glorious creation, one day He will appear from heaven with His mighty angels. He will come in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know Him and will be marveled at by all who see Him. On that day justice will be dealt out accordingly to each man’s work, and as The Lord has said, “To this one, I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.”

Today is the day of salvation. I pray that everyone who reads this short devotion will truly consider their ways. May the truth of God’s word break the hardness of your own heart and lead you to the cross to see Jesus bearing the sins of the world. For God’s holy word tells us, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” and, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” Will you come and receive His mercy? Will you acknowledge the treachery, the injustice, and the hatred that resides within the very depths of your own heart?

Come now sinner, spread out your hands in holy prayer, Come to Him who can save you, beg for His mercy acknowledging your sinful state. See Him hanging upon that old rugged cross, see the blood, sweat, and tears streaming down His face. Reach out and touch the scars on His hands and ask Him for mercy, and you will receive it. Let these words the Lord spoke through Isaiah awaken your soul, “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight. Cease to do evil and learn to do good.” Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool.” Will you call upon Him today, for as the Lord has said, “But to this one, I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.” May the Lord grant you the power to do so.
