Cub Country Cafe now open for dine-in

Olney’s newest restaurant opened recently to the delight of the Olney community. The new restaurant is “Cub Country Café” and will feature breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Ed Callison and Becky Sue Callison, owners of the recently opened drive-thru restaurant, Po-Boys & More, said they found great success opening Po-Boys and decided Olney needed a full-service, sit-down restaurant.

They closed the drive-up restaurant and opened the Cub Country Café in the former location of Lawana’s Family Diner across Avenue O from Stewarts Food Store.

Mr. Callison brought the Po-Boys menu to the Cub Country Café and expanded it to include breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. The new menu will include blue plate specials Monday-Friday from 5 p.m. until close, and a special meal for Sundays which will always include a roast beef option with a second option of roasted turkey or roast pork with all the trimmings. Wednesday’s menu will feature an all-you-can-eat steak option. Thursday’s menu includes all-you-can-eat country ribs, and Friday's menu serves up all-you-can-eat catfish plates.

Mr. and Mrs. Callison said they plan to decorate the restaurant with Olney Cub décor and to designate a “Student of the Month,” with the student’s photo on the wall and a special dinner for their family. Mr. Callison said he would like to host Cubs athletic teams after games in the diner’s banquet room and to attract visiting teams and their families as well.

The diner is ready for catering orders and for banquet reservations for any community groups and meetings of any kind, he said. Hours of operation are Tuesday-Thursday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., and is closed on Monday.
