County hires Kyle Milam as Treasurer

County Commissioners named Kyle Milam as County Treasurer after the sudden resignation of Kathy Mishler. Mr. Milam has worked as a corporate financial officer, a cattle rancher and served as the longtime chairman of the Young County Republican Party. Precinct 4 Commissioner Jimmy Wiley nominated Mr. Milam at the Court’s July 31 meeting. The nomination was approved on a 4-0 vote, with Precinct 3 Commissioner Stacey Rogers absent.

Ms. Mishler told the Commissioners that she was resigning for personal reasons. Ms. Mishler won her first term as County Treasurer on Nov. 8, 2022 and took office in January.

Mr. Milam will serve in his current term until Dec. 31, 2024. He has decided to run for re-election, he said. The Enterprise spoke with Mr. Milam at the Aug. 14 Commissioners’ Court meeting.

Enterprise: How did your new position as County Treasurer come about?

Mr. Milam: Someone reached out to me and asked would you be interested in the County Treasurer’s position? I had contemplated running for this a couple of times before and decided not to … so it’s not out of reason that I would be thinking about it. So I met with the commissioners and they decided to appoint me.

Q: That leaves a hole in the Young County Republican Party. Have you found anyone to take your position?

A: I had to resign my position as County chair and we are in the process of looking for someone to take over. I have a person that I haven’t contact yet but I think they might be interested.

Q: What made you want to do this job? A: I started out from college in banking, and I worked for both banks in this town [Graham] and so I have a pretty deep financial background. I’ve worked for two manufacturing companies as their financial officer and I’ve worked in oil and gas doing financial bookkeeping and other financial matters … I’ve been a rancher for the last 10 or 12 years after I took over our family farm and … so it kind of fits.
