Council appoints Thea Sullivan to open seat

The Olney City Council named Thea Sullivan as an interim City Councilmember to replace Mayor Pro Tem Tom Parker at its Jan. 8 meeting.

Three other citizens - Mona Bernhardt, Carol Vorel and Terri Wipperman - previously volunteered to fill Mr. Parker’s seat.

The Council entertained no discussion about the qualifications of Ms. Bernhardt, Ms. Vorel or Ms. Wipperman.

Councilman Harrison Wellman said he spoke to Ms. Sullivan about filling the position until the May 4 election.

Ms. Sullivan, a certified public accountant, will serve in Mr. Parker’s seat until a successor is chosen in the May 4 election.

She is set to take the oath of office at the Jan. 22 Council meeting.

The nominations were open to taxpaying citizens who reside within the City limits.

The filing window for the City Council election is Jan. 17 through Feb. 16.
