Commissioners reduce speed limit on Dunn Rd

County Commissioners voted to reduce the speed limit on a blacktop stretch of Dunn Road in Precinct 3 to 30 mph after residents complained at a Dec. 12 public hearing about traffic speeding down the road in excess of the previous 45 mph limit. Dunn Road runs north-south on the eastern boundary of Olney Municipal Airport, and sees weekday traffic from Air Tractor. The new speed limit applies to the paved section of Dunn Road that runs south of State Highway 79 until it changes to White Rock, Precinct 3 Commissioner Stacey Rogers said. The new speed limit took effect on Dec. 13 when county road crews replaced the signage, Mr. Rogers said. Amber Lockhart of Olney told the commissioners that the three residents of the paved portion of Dunn Road contend with speeding traffic from Air Tractor commuters during the week and hunters on weekends. “They are going excessively fast on our road,” she told the commissioners. “We’re talking 65 (mph) past our house.” Ms. Lockhart told the Enterprise that she was “grateful that Stacey Rogers and all the Young County Commissioners took the time to address safety concerns on Dunn Road. Lowering the speed limit to 30 mph on the blacktop portion of Dunn Road will hopefully help with the issue of speeding vehicles in that residential area.”
