City mails lake lot applications

The City of Olney took another step toward updating health, safety and housing codes at Lake Olney by mailing out applications to current leaseholders for new lot leases, said Interim City Administrator Arpegea Pagsuberon.

“It’s not a lease agreement, it’s an application to move forward,” she said. “We have very spotty and few records of who is out at the lake.”

The seven-page application is designed to gather information on the applicant and any co-applicants and pet who use the 56 lake lots, she said. It went out to 21 leaseholders of record – some of whom hold leases on multiple lots, she said.

Some of the lots had changed hands multiple times so Pagsuberon is asking that anyone who has a current lake lease should watch for the application.

“This is information we should have gotten over the years,” she said. “When I sent out the original letter asking what they were doing with the lots, I found several lots had changed hands without the city’s knowledge. That’s not okay.”

Leaseholders who do not get a letter or have questions about the application should call City Hall at 940-564-2102, she said.

“If they have questions they can call City Hall. “I have addresses for almost everyone. I hunted one of them down through their water bill hopefully we make sure

Ordinances pertaining to the lake lots are scheduled to be discussed at the June 13 City Council meeting, she said. The new ordinances will prohibit people from drawing untreated water from the lake and from dumping raw sewage on the ground, she said. City officials

City officials are still working on zoning changes to the lake lots to deal with leaseholders who have constructed permanent structures and are living at the lake, which are prohibited by the previous contracts.

Those issues will not be discussed at the June 13 meeting, she said.

“We are not doing anything with the people that are out there now,” she said.
