Five-year award given to OPD Det. Hudson

The Olney City Council presented a Five Year Longevity Award to Olney Police Sgt. Dustin Hudson on Jan. 22.

Sgt. Hudson serves as the Olney Police Department’s detective and has overseen code enforcement activities as well.

He also was named second in command on Jan. 22 as Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator with the state Department of Emergency Management, behind Police Chief Dan Birbeck.

City calls for May 4

election

The City Council authorized City Secretary Tammy Hourigan to contract with the Young County Election Coordinator and to order a May 4 general election.

The election will decide two City Council seats and the Mayor’s race, as well as three seats on the OISD Board of Trustees, and five board seats on the Olney Hamilton Hospital Board of Trustees.

Newcastle ISD also has three board seats up for election. Applications to file can be submitted until Friday, Feb. 16. Early voting runs from Monday, April 22 through Tuesday, April 30.

The last day to register to vote in the election will be Thursday, April 4.

Public Works submits grant Olney Public Works director Michael Jacoba presented a grant proposal for a dump trailer to regional governing council Nortex.

Mr. Jacoba came in third out of six applicants. The agency approved the $14,303.25 purchase, which must now receive approval from state environmental authorities.
