City Administrator fired

City Administrator fired

The Olney City Council voted on Jan. 8 to terminate the employment of City Administrator Arpegea Pagsuberon. Ms. Pagsuberon had been on the job for nearly two years including one year as Interim City Administrator following the departure of Neal Welch.

The vote was 4-1 to remove Ms. Pagsuberon. No reason was given for her dismissal other than that she had “lost the confidence of the Council.”

The City Council did not announce who would replace Ms. Pagsuberon as interim city administrator. The Enterprise requested and reviewed Ms. Pagsuberon’s annual employment evaluation via the Texas Public Records Act, and found that the Council had set no expectations nor performance metrics for her position.

Mayor Rogers then made a motion to remove Ms. Pagsuberon from office “effective immediately.”

Texas employers are entitled to fire employees at-will but the reasoning for the firing must be lawful, according to state law.
