Olney man shoots self in Seymour

Seymour Police Department has confirmed that Olney Advocate publisher Kurt McCord shot himself in the head early Tuesday morning in the Seymour hospital’s parking lot as police approached his vehicle.
An SPD press release issued just before 11 a.m. today said that agency got a call from the Wichita Falls Police Department about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6.
WFPD let the Seymour police know that McCord was the suspect in a domestic-related shooting that had just taken place in Wichita Falls, and might be headed to Seymour.
At 3:35 a.m., SPD located his vehicle in the north parking lot of the Seymour Hospital.
“As officers from the Seymour Police Department approached him, a gunshot was heard coming from the vehicle,” the press release stated, adding McCord was the only person in the vehicle.
Police recovered a .380 semi automatic handgun from his lap. Staff from the hospital and EMS took McCord into the hospital for treatment. He later was care-flighted to United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls.
No reliable confirmation of McCord’s condition was available as of 2 p.m. Wednesday.
McCord, 40, at one time was editor of the Olney Enterprise, which is owned by the same company as the Graham Leader.
