Blessed and a Blessing: Jessica Carrizales

Jessica Carrizales, Level 3 resident of the House of Mercy (H.O.M.E.), was struggling to stay sober in a sober living house before coming to Olney.

“I have been an addict for 23 years and it’s all I have ever known. I started drugs at the age of 11. I was very abused as a child so, when I used drugs it made me feel different. I felt that the drugs were saving my life. I have been through a lot of pain and hurt. My boys were removed from me on March 1, 2018. That is when the real pain set in. 20 years on the streets and nothing hurt as bad as losing my mom, then my children. The last year of my addiction, 2019, it was life or death every day because I wanted to die. I could not understand why God would not help me get clean when I needed him the most. I have a year of sobriety behind me now and it is only by the grace of God and through my deepest pain that I learned to trust in the Lord Jesus. My deepest pain saved my life. I have learned to live everyday with Jesus instead of drugs and alcohol,” said Jessica.

Jessica states that after completion of the program she plans to have a home for her and her children and to stay clean and sober. When asked about what she likes the most about H.O.M.E. her responses were, “It has given me a safe environment to learn how to live and Preston and Trena’s hearts are definitely for the people of the program.”
