What God has Done for Me

God has shown me forgiveness. “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15

“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” Mark 11:25

Every day since I’ve been here at the House of Mercy God has been working on my heart, and I’m learning his word daily. I’m learning how important it is to forgive. I’ve learned that if you hold on to the past, the anger, the hurtful things someone has done to you, you will continue to live in sin.

I drank for many years trying to drown the pain of my past. It wasn’t until I came here, started opening my Bible and learning His words when I began to realize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for me and that His blood covers all my sins, past, present and future. I AM FORGIVEN.

God has opened my eyes to the importance of forgiving others. I got a chance this weekend to lay it all at the cross; I put down my hurts, pain and my anger toward others. I’ve been here a little more than two months, and God has shown me I’m never alone. I was never alone; God has shown me I don’t have to drown myself in a bottle.

So, when you ask me what God has done for me? God has changed me. “Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things have become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17

Old things have passed away - my drinking, my resentments, my anger, my hurts.

Behold all things are new. A new way of thinking. I go to God in prayer knowing I’m forgiven, and I am now able to FORGIVE OTHERS.

That is what God has done for me.
