Sugar Detox Week 3: Sweet Cheats
Day 15 of Sugar Detox-- When I first heard about the sugar detox that Pretty Girl Fitness was doing at the Refuge for our next challenge, I was excited because I thought it would be easy peasy. Since I’m not usually a dessert person, I thought it would be a piece of cake. Little did I know that most foods break down into sugar, especially processed foods. You just HAVE to read the nutrition facts on the product.
The first few days were good, after the fourth day I was getting headaches, I drink a cup of coffee every morning and with it I use sweet cream. I was able to replace that with almond milk. Then I was inspired to do something a little more creative instead of the usual sweet cream.
I wanted to shake things up a bit so I found out about hemp seeds. I had probably passed by this product hundreds of times before I even thought to bring it home, then one day, one of my friends, Ms. Ronni Walker, informed me about the product and its benefits!
I was astounded at the amazing benefits hemp seeds had to offer. Hemp seeds are a good source of potassium, protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and omega-6 fatty acids not easy to find in many other foods and they support cardiovascular health!
You’re probably thinking what do hemp seeds have to do with coffee creamer? Well, here’s the thing: you can make hemp milk as an alternative for coffee creamer!
Here’s the recipe: I use 2 cups of water and 1/3 cup of hemp seeds, blend till smooth, and there you go - your own no-sugar coffee creamer, but at the same time it still gives an amazing nutty flavor!
For lunch I usually meal prep cauliflower rice, black beans, brussel sprouts, broccoli, 2 hard boiled eggs, sweet potatoes and a serving of salmon.
For snack options I usually snack on dates (this is where it was going to be challenging, I asked my oldest to hide them so it wouldn’t be a visible temptation). I was able to replace sugary dates with a choice of green apple, grapefruit, or a banana, along with some nuts like cashews, peanuts, and pecans.
For dinner, I bake chicken with asparagus and a sweet potato. I have incorporated hemp milk along with a banana, 2 cups of spinach, and 2 raw eggs for a smoothie snack. I have always tried to incorporate the food that God has given us in my menu. Teaching my children to eat right and make healthy food choices at a young age will only benefit them and discipline them in their adult lives. There are so many diseases and cancers related to food. There’s been so much research and many studies that teach us what all types of food do to the human body.
Now more than ever we are able to read about and educate ourselves on the importance of not only a healthy diet but a healthy lifestyle as well.
You and your family will ONLY benefit from the choices you make today. It starts with you making the first step to healthy and strong. We only have one body, we need to take care of it. If your body breaks down you can’t claim someone else’s. If you have onecoat to wear for the rest of your life you’re going to take care of that coat, you will treasure it.
It is the same with your body: your body is carrying your Spirit. What are you going to do when you are sick and can’t carry your Spirit?
The apostle John said in 3 John 2: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. If you prosper in your soul, prosper in your health.”
Today is the day you can start: Come join us at The Refuge with the Pretty Girl Fitness workouts offered free and in the morning and evenings! Make better food choices, and keep your eyes on Jesus.
