The Power of the Gospel

“He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 NASBS

Dear Reader, Only the Creator of the universe could have designed the human mind to expand its possibilities with each passing generation. Throughout history, our mental capacities have surpassed what was once thought to be achievable.

From groundbreaking medical advancements that can heal the heart—the most essential organ—to the development of rockets that have taken humanity to the moon, to even the invention of cell phones that enable faceto- face communication across the globe. These achievements were unimaginable just a few centuries ago.

However, the same intellect that has facilitated these incredible advancements also reveals a darker side. With this same capacity of thought, humanity has plunged into a troubling state of immorality and wrongdoing.

Our streets are plagued by violence, alcohol abuse shatters families, and illegal drugs are misused as a means to escape the emotional pain stemming from societal issues. Human trafficking has emerged as a source of great wealth, while the misuse of cell phones exposes our children to inappropriate content and has reconditioned their minds to accept what is improper concerning the origin of marriage, which can only be found in God.

Please understand, human beings, due to the pervasive influence of sin from the moment of birth, cannot arrive at an absolute truth regarding moral behavior, as what is deemed wicked varies from person to person.

For there is not one among us who is free from sin and who does not have inner turmoil of corruption that lurks within our hearts. These sins act as witnesses against us because they are hidden within our hearts due to shame and fear of causing pain to those we care about. If this is true for everyone born of the seed of man, how can we ever find a foundational and unmovable absolute truth unless it lies beyond ourselves? Dear reader, our hearts are deceitfully wicked—who can truly understand them apart from their Creator? Only He, the source of all creation, has the power to restore what is broken.

For this reason alone, the Bible corresponds perfectly with the problem we see in humanity from a redemptive stand point. It reveals to us that the Creator entered our world in the person of Jesus Christ. He took on human flesh and fulfilled every righteous requirement of the law, having never sinned in thought, word, or deed. The Scriptures teach that Jesus, fully God and fully man, offered His life as a sacrifice to satisfy the righteous demands of justice, bearing the weight of divine wrath toward sin. Through Him, Jesus can be both the just and the justifier of all who come to Him in faith and repentance. “That is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.” For “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Furthermore, the Bible asserts that when God incarnated as Jesus, He did so for all eternity. This enables Him to serve as a mediator between God and humanity, bestowing a righteousness that is free from the penalty of the law—a standard that no human can fulfill.

As the Scripture states, “Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Not only are these individuals granted forgiveness, but they are also adopted into God’s family; those who come to Jesus with faith and repentance are embraced as heirs of His kingdom, transformed from adversaries into cherished sons and daughters of the living God.

How beautiful is the gospel of Jesus Christ. It shows God’s profound love demonstrated on the cross. It teaches us of Jesus‘s death, burial, resurrection, and ascension back into heaven. It awakens the heart to the reality of divine judgment while guiding it to a place of forgiveness and acceptance.

The Bible states, “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” The solution for today’s society lies not in the moral principles of secular society, but in the transformative gift of a new heart, given by the Creator Himself, Jesus Christ, Who “upholds all things by the word of His power.”
