Horton retires after 31 years

Mrs. Vicki Horton, Cafeteria Manager and Child Nutrition Director, is retiring from Olney ISD after 31 years.

Although her retirement doesn’t take effect until May 31 (Memorial Day), May 24 is when Horton will walk into the school cafeteria - where she served countless meals for the students of Olney School District - for the last time as an Olney ISD employee.

Superintendent Dr. Roach says, “Mrs. Horton was one of the most knowledgeable food service professionals I have had the opportunity to work with.”

Throughout the years, Texas has seen many modifications to the rules about school lunches, but one thing that stayed the same at this Texas school district was Vicki Horton’s dedication to her job and the students. The countless meals she served played a major role in the growth and progression of many of our children in this community.

In addition to serving the students breakfast and lunch, Horton also guaranteed that the meals met certain nutritional requirements for the students, that a hygienic environment was maintained, and oversaw all the operations from ordering, to food prep, and everything in between.

Horton said in response to her retirement, “I will be helping out my granddaughter at the Sassy Heifer Land and Cattle Co., enjoying my kids and grandkids, and plan to travel some and just simply enjoy my retirement.”

Thank you, Vicki, for all the dedication and years you spent caring about our children - the students. You will be missed.
