Ft. Belknap Historical Assoc. Officers Dinner

Fort Belknap hosted the annual 12th Night Dinner with the Officers this past Monday, January 6. It was hosted by the Fort Belknap Living History Association and was a fundraiser dinner.

The night started out with the officers giving a little bit of history about Fort Belknap, before eating a four course meal in an 1850s style way. “This is the 6th year of the event and this the largest crowd we have ever had,” said one of the officers of the event on Monday night. This event was supposed to be held last year at this time as well, before getting canceled due to inclement weather.

Once questions were answered by the officers, the meal was served with roast, potatoes, tea, coffee, and much more. Back in the 1850s, there were many different traditions including meatpies that were served for special occasion and also served as a reward of sorts. These meatpies were served at the fundraiser dinner after the meal was served. This was especially neat because it showed you how things and events used to be in this very area.

After this took place, the Graham Junior High performed a Shakespearean play for the audience, with many parents in attendance. This was a great way to get multiple communities involved, including Graham, Newcastle, and Olney. Fort Belknap will have more events on the way, and for more information, visit the Fort Belknap website and Facebook page.
