First United Methodist Church Vaccinations at Food Bank

On September 16, the Olney First United Methodist Church hosted their usual food bank, handing out groceries to individuals and families in need of help. During this time, the church hosted a COVID-19 Vaccine clinic in hopes of providing the shot to those who may not had the opportunity to be vaccinated.

Nurse Amy Smith, an RN/BSN with United Regional Health Care System in Wichita Falls, was on hand to answer questions about the vaccine and to administer the shot as well. Ms. Smith says she travels all over putting on these vaccine clinics to help make sure as many people have the opportunity to be vaccinated as possible.

Ms. Smith gave some info into what she does. “I’m a community health nurse educator and I work at the transition clinic (United Regional). We just want to make sure that the vaccine is accessible and easy to get to. It’s free and we just meet people where they are.”

Pastor Harrell Braddock, Jr., of First United Methodist Church of Olney was on hand to explain a little bit about the food bank and vaccine clinic. “We have our normal Thursday Food Pantry from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. We give out fresh food and canned food. We don’t turn anybody away. We stress once a month but if they come once a week, we still give them food, it’s just that we don’t want anybody to go hungry so that’s every week. United Regional called us wanting to know if they could come (to have the COVID vaccine clinic) and I said absolutely.” To receive food or find out more information on the weekly food pantry, please visit Olney FUMC at 110 West Elm, or call 940-564-5622.
