City Council
On Jan. 11, the Olney City Council met for the first time this new year. The meeting began by considering updating the agreement with waste connections. The council wasted no time discussing this item on the agenda, with the entire council giving ideas on how to improve the waste connections going forward in Olney to make the city cleaner. The council discussed the easiest ways for waste connections to improve, while also considering efficiency. The council decided to wait until the next meeting to bring forth a final decision on the matter.
Next up on the agenda was to hear and consider action to resolve water utility residential account, where there have been potential waters leaks—the council will make a decision on this during the next meeting as well. The council approved a resolution to change signatures on city accounts held at Olney Interbank, and then appointed Arpegea Pagsuberon as the emergency assistant management coordinator with TDEM.
Item no. 9 on the agenda was to approve complaint procedures for the Texas Community Development Block Grant. The council then approved adopting a 1,000- foot set back for sale of alcoholic beverages from Olney ISD.
Police Chief Birbeck gave an update towards the end of the meeting about the activity going on in the City of Olney. The council approved specific instructions about the May 1, 2021 General Election before adjourning.
