Chamber networking night

Chamber networking night

The Olney Chamber of Commerce [OCC] hosted a networking night on Aug. 4 at Hometown Coffee & Tea on Main Street in Olney. OCC director Deidre Brown and board members host regular networking nights as a way for Chamber members to socialize and discuss business.

This networking night included a trivia match in which teams were handed name tags with numbers that sat them at one of four tables. Ms. Brown said she scrambled the teams on purpose so that members had a chance to visit with people they may not know as well as their teammates.

“We started with two lightning rounds, with each question demanding an answer within 15 seconds. Table 4, consisting of Heather Garcia, Tammy Montgomery, Johnny Moore, Summer Branum and Katie Carls, won both lightning rounds and went on to play head-to-head in our custom Olney trivia game! The game consisted of 10 questions collected by both the director of the Chamber, Deidre Brown andour town’s mayor, Rue Rogers. Brown visited our Olney Heritage Museum to research and accurately form questions and answers for the game, and from those questions and from Mayor Rue Roger’s information created a fun and educational quiz for the event. Prizes included $5 Chamber Bucks, to be used at participating local businesses for each player at the winning table, and then a gift basket with blanket and tumblers to the overall winner, Johnny Moore. The gift basket was donated by one of the event sponsors, the Rebel Soul Mercantile. The door prizes were also donated by the Rebel Soul Mercantile owner, Katie Carls. These were game night baskets, consisting of boxed candy, popcorn and a fun game to share with friends. The winners of the door prizes were Scott Bell of Virginia’s House and Robert Taylor of the Olney American Legion Post 414. The quiz can be found online at the Olney, TX Chamber of Commerce YouTube channel if anyone would like to try for themselves! The next networking night
