Amity Club meetings resume

The Amity Club held its first meeting Thursday, Sept. 2, at Olney Heritage Museum. The president, Gail Spears, called the meeting to order at 10:30 a.m. The meeting was hosted by Phyllis Whitsitt, Evelyn Altmiller, Janie Spivey and Ann Lundy.

The meeting began with the invocation by Bobby Wright. The members recited the Club Collect written by Mary Stewart in 1904. Recording secretary Margie Snyder read the meeting minutes from May 6, 2021. One correction was to change the naming of the committees by Ann Lundy. Margie Snyder called the roll, and members present Evelyn Altmiller, Judy Averett, Rita Choat, Janice Gauger, Nita Hearne, JoAn Key, Ann Lundy, Marilyn Norris, Carolyn Penn, Gail Spears, Margie Snyder, Jeanie Spivey Donna Sullivan, Ronni Walker, Phyllis Whitsitt, Judi Winslow and Bobby Wright. Members absent: Michele Pham, Lucretia Taylor. The 2021 Officers: Gail Spears (President), Ann Lundy (First vice president), Judi Winslow (Second vice president), Margie Snyder (Recording Secretary), Evelyn Altmiller (Corresponding Secretary), Lucretia Taylor (Treasurer), Ronni Walker (Reporter)

Correspondence secretary Evelyn Altmiller shared the correspondence. Thank you from the Senior Cub Center and Ann Lundy. Phyllis Whitsitt filled in for the treasurer, Lucretia Taylor, and disclosed the current bank account balance, and she asked members to pay their membership fee of $40.

Ann Lundy made a presentation about the program books and the theme, “The ties that bind.” She acknowledged everyone who assisted with putting this year’s program together. She discussed Robert’s Rule of Order and the eight steps in making and carrying a motion. Then she announced that Betty Odell was moved to honorary member. Evelyn Altmiller nominated Kristy Nantz for membership. The members voted and accepted the recommendation unanimously.

Gail Spears adjourned the meeting at 11:49 a.m. The next meeting will be held Oct. 7, at Olney Heritage Museum.
