Amity Club Meeting

Amity Club Meeting

The Amity Club members met Thursday, March 4, at 3:15 p.m. in the Hamilton Hospital Education building located at 902 W. Hamilton Street in Olney. Mrs. Carolyn Penn and Mrs. Judy Averett hosted the meeting themed, “Fortunate for Friends.” Margie Snyder was the program leader.

Ronni Walker introduced the keynote speaker, Ms. Kristi McQueen. McQueen is the program director at the Refuge in Olney and is a columnist for Olney Enterprise. She presented the meaning of friendship and discussed how friends should treat each other. The central message she delivered to the Amity Club ladies was premised on 1 Peter 4: 8-10 (NIV), “Above all, love each other deeply because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” She concluded with a simple concept that real friends are friends who have done life together.

The meeting continued with roll call, and each lady responded with what friendship means to them. The members present included Evelyn Altmiller (Corresponding Secretary), Judy Averett, Janice Gauger, Nita Hearne, JoAn Key, Ann Lundy, Marilyn Norris (Recording Secretary), Carolyn Penn (Second Vice President), Margie Snyder, Gail Spears (First Vice President), Jeanie Spivey, Lucretia Taylor (Treasurer), Ronni Walker (Reporter), Phyllis Whitsitt, Judi Winslow, Bobby Wright (President), Donna McClure and Michelle Pham. Rita Choat and Betty O’Dell were absent. Mrs. Barbara Larimore was a guest, and she shared a quote about friendship, “A true friend is someone who thinks you are a good egg even though they know you are slightly cracked.”

Marilyn Norris read the minutes from the previous meeting. Lucretia Taylor presented the financial report and Evelyn Altmiller shared cards that Mrs. Betty O’Dell and Olney Hamilton Hospital (OHH) staff submitted to the Amity Club.

OHH staff submitted a card to thank Amity Club members for preparing Valentine’s Day treats to show appreciation for the hospital staff at the Feb. 4 meeting themed, “The Heart of Friendship.” Nita Hearne hosted the meeting along with co-hostesses Marilyn Norris and Bobby Wright.

OHH staff said in a card, “This organization of remarkable women went above and beyond with their kind gesture of appreciation to the staff of Hamilton Hospital, Olney Family Clinic and Wellness Center. Your kindness and generosity were uplifting to us all.”

Nita Hearne reported that they delivered treat bags to the Wellness Center, Olney Family Clinic and the House of Mercy. Phyllis Whitsitt confirmed the memorial brick purchase for Frances Key that will be displayed in the memorial garden at OHH. JoAn Key announced the officer nominations for the upcoming year: Gail Spears for president, Ann Lundy for first vice president, Judi Winslow for second vice president, Evelyn Altmiller for corresponding secretary, Margie Snyder for recording secretary, Lucretia Taylor for treasurer, and Ronni Walker for the reporter.
