The 3-Piece, Polyester Double-Knit Suit
More than forty years ago, Neil’s mom bought him a new suit with matching vest. It was a great suit made of that long lasting double knit fabric of the day. It looked so good on him, and he loved it. Through the years I bought other suits for him. He never liked any of them, and always went back to wearing that favorite navy blue, 3 piece double knit suit.
Easter Sunday, 2021, was the last time Neil was able to attend church. He dressed up in his favorite suit, and looked very “Eastery.”
He wore the suit for the last time on Sept. 23, 2021. He was all dressed up and ready to meet the Lord in his polyester double knit suit.
I think about that suit, and the fabric that never wore out! It went on and on forever. It was the best. It was easy to sew with, and always looked great! I made many skirts, pants, and jackets of that fabric for my girls. My daughter still has the bed spread I made for her dorm room in 1976… it still looks as good as new. They finally quit making that fabric, I guess because it never wore out, and they had to put new products out for people to buy.
I started thinking about Neil’s suit and that fabric. Fifty years from now, I can just imagine if his grave were opened… Neil will have gone on to be with the Lord, but that polyester suit would still be looking as good as ever!
