Sometimes life just seems to have an autopilot. The same for work, spiritual growth, physical growth, mental growth or even growth in a relationship. I have a lot of routines because I found having daily routines takes the stress out of everyday life for me. Do you have a morning routine that helps you start the day? Maybe a routine for your day off?

I believe routines are very important as a Christian as well, building a strong daily routine of communicating with God and reading the Bible will help tremendously when we hit those not-so-routine days. When we are struck with the third Monday of a week, maybe a death of someone close to us or a day filled with anticipation of something exciting that is to come. These days may leave us out-of-sorts or wondering what to do. This is when having a daily routine will help big time. When in doubt just follow your routine.

My general routine includes waking up, letting the dogs out and then coffee on the couch in solitude as I ease into the day. Then when properly caffeinated a shower is in order. Then I do my daily Bible study and prayer. Next, I feed, water my dogs and give them treats. After I spend a little time giving them love, it’s as much for their benefit as it is for my own. This beginning to almost every day I have set a foundation for starting the day right for myself spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally.

I have had some rough days just as we all have and when these days come, my routine of going to God in prayer centers me and gives me peace. I know once I give my problems to God, he will solve them and I can stop worrying about them.

Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

The same principles should be applied to all areas of your life. A routine of exercise for your physical wellbeing could be as simple as a walk after dinner every night or going to the gym three times a week. Mental wellbeing could include a routine of reading or doing puzzles, for example. So maybe add reading the paper with your breakfast or setting aside time each day to read a good book. Emotional routines could be as simple as loving your pets or having a friend to talk with every day. The idea is to find what routine works best for you and create good habits of healthy daily routines. This is Will B saying, it’s never too late to begin a new daily routine.
