The Watchdogs of Washington
Until about five years ago, nearly everyone in the media (see Operation: Mockingbird) loved Elon Musk and now they do not.
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is on the move, its mission to expose waste, corruption, and inefficiency in federal agencies.
Initially, many assumed this would be a simple paperwork review. Instead, by embedding teams within agencies, DOGE is trying to reveal issues that would otherwise remain hidden. Their first major target?
USAID, an agency long accused by pundits of being a money-laundering front. While I lack the resources to prove this claim, the reality is clear: billions of taxpayer dollars have been funneled overseas with little accountability.
Whether it’s Ukraine, Israel, or other foreign nations, the destination is secondary—the real issue is oversight.
The question is: Were some of the stranger expenditures in USAID’s books just cover stories for untraceable cash flow? Many suspect this is how the CIA has been funding operations off the books under the guise of “promoting democracy” and “furthering America’s interests.” With USAID now under scrutiny, this financial pipeline may finally be drying up.
DOGE also alleged that FEMA misused funds. Instead of helping American disaster victims, FEMA spent over $59 million housing illegal immigrants in New York hotels. While this should have been a state responsibility, it’s telling that federal dollars were wasted on non-citizens rather than Americans in need. In December, Congress had to appropriate additional funding to respond to emergencies in North Carolina and California.
Perhaps the most shocking discovery yet? Treasury payments totaling $4.7 billion were missing a critical tracking code. This code is mandatory— it links each payment to a specific budget item. Without it, tracing the money is nearly impossible. Given the circumstances, it’s fair to assume that these funds were used for projects the government doesn’t want officially recorded.
Many Americans don’t realize how this affects them directly. The government never bounces a check, meaning more money floods into circulation without an equivalent increase in goods and services. This is how inflation skyrockets. Prices at everyday stores like Stewart’s Food Store are rising not just due to corporate greed but because of reckless federal spending.
Even before DOGE, NGOs were accused of aiding illegal immigration. Organizations like Catholic Charities, which have allegedly facilitated illegal crossings, are under review.
President Donald Trump has suspended their federal funding pending investigation.
This investigation is deeply personal for me. I once aspired to be a Catholic priest but could not ignore the Church’s involvement in aiding illegal immigration.
I would have been removed for speaking out. The reality is, no country should allow unchecked entry without background checks. Those who claim compassion must also consider the consequences of open borders: the rise of violent gangs and the known crossings of suspects on the international terror watch list.
There was nothing sinful about Nehemiah building a wall around Jerusalem for defense. If someone helped an invading army enter Jerusalem, the person who helped them should have been arrested. And if it was done with tax dollars, this would be even more abominable.
For years, Washington operated with little fear of exposure. That era is ending. The swamp is being drained—not with words, but with numbers, receipts, and accountability. DOGE is proving that government efficiency is possible—it just takes the right people willing to follow the money.
