Eva Joy Strealy
Olney ~ Eva Joy Strealy, age 90, died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Grace Care Center in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Harrell Braddock, Jr., pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Eva Joy was born on August 19, 1927 in Olney, Texas to the late Henry Harrison Butler and Lorena Ethel McLaren Butler. She married DeWayne Strealy on November 10, 1946 in Olney, Texas where she was a lifelong resident. She was the secretary for the Chamber of Commerce for two years and secretary for Olney High School for ten years. She then worked for Olney Savings for twenty-three years until her retirement. Eva Joy was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for twenty-five years, served as a board member, was a member of the Alpha Night Circle and the Congregational Care Team. She was a member of the Home Garden Club and the Delian Club, and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and school volunteer. Eva Joy loved to be with her loving family and always looked forward to Christmas where she would dress in costumes for the family “Christmas Sing Song”. She always looked forward to meeting longtime friends for lunch once a week and playing bridge with her friends. Eva Joy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband DeWayne on August 25, 2014.
Eva Joy is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Tommy and Aurlie Strealy of Corpus Christi, Texas and Jim and Kay Strealy of Olney, Texas; five grandchildren: Clay and Kimberly Strealy of Lakeside City, Texas, Kara and Ben Gaertner of Burnet, Texas, Blake Strealy of Abilene, Texas, Stephen and Amber Strealy of Corpus Christi, Texas, Amy and Josh Byrd of Cedar Park, Texas; and nine great-grandchildren: Tucker Strealy, Hayden Strealy, Aubrea Strealy, Nathan Gaertner, Ethan Gaertner, Katherine Gaertner, Kaytie Gaertner, Emma Byrd and Abigail Byrd.
