Captain Billy Joe "Bill" Person

Captain Billy Joe "Bill" Person went on his last mission November 27th after a long courageous battle with cancer and COPD.  Born and raised in Olney, he went on his chosen path of Boyscouts, Civil Air Patrol, graduated ROTC from North Texas into the Air Force and the Intelligence Security Services with 2 tours of Vietnam.  Survived being shot down and was involved in some amazing Intelligence programs.  His passion was always Flying aircraft, he loved being in the sky.  An avid military historian and author of 7 books; Avatar Dawn, Critic Makers, Ravenworks Sanction, Queen Bee Delta Project and his latest Batcats as well as a lovely book "Stories Remembered from the Past" about a history of the North Texas area as well as a children's book of illustrated poems all available from Amazon.  He was a successful motivational speaker and trainer at Brown and Root after his military service.  Later as a rancher in Jack county with his brothers Richard and Claude as well as an Oil and Gas man.  Active in VFW - Bowie, American Legion - Bowie, Khe Sanh Veterans, Forward Air Controllers, Batcats, he enjoyed attending those reunions and a brotherhood of military history writers.   A very sweet loving giving man, always positive and generous to everyone.  His eyes smiled and his wit always sparkled.  He enjoyed being a celebrity of late with his many caregivers, Doctors, nurses and home health in the New Braunfels area who doted on the man.

The world lost a sweet good man and I lost my brother, best friend, debate partner and father.  On that last Sunday evening, we watched some football, he did one of his Sudoku puzzles, had a conversation with a Vietnam marine Harrier pilot next to him and we were able to hold each other and say I love you.

He will be honored to be next to his father Claude Oliver Person WW1 and his brave uncle Aaron WW2 in our Person family home at the Hastings Oklahoma cemetery in January 2018.
