Seventh-grade Cubs blast Bulldogs

Olney goose-eggs Stamford 36-0

The seventh grade Olney Cubs football team traveled to Stamford to take on the Bulldogs last Thursday.

The Cubs came away victorious by the score of 36-0. Much like the week before, the ground game was very effective for the Cubs. Cauy Burrows, Luis Marquez, Randy Cantu, Haydon Carter, Codey Henderson, Carlos Englishbee, and Jonathan Melchor established huge running lanes for the backfield. The offensive line physically dominated Stamford at the point of attack. Clay Fite, Christopher Robertson, and Bobby Smith ran with physicality to match the toughness of the offensive line. Axel Flores, Oswaldo Hernandez, Jose Olvera, and Jesse Sosa-Martinez were able to block well downfield, springing some big gains on the ground. The Cubs were also the more physical team defensively, spending much of the game in the Bulldogs’ backfield. Hernandez took an interception back for a defensive touchdown in the fourth quarter. This group has outscored their previous two opponents by a total of 68-6. They look to keep this momentum going into district play as they travel to Windthorst this Thursday. Come support the future of the Olney Cubs as the game will begin at 4 p.m., with the eighth grade to follow.
