The Olney High School Lady Cubs and Cubs golf teams outpaced the competition at a tournament in Seymour recently, both bringing home first place team finishes and some medalist honors. The teams and individuals also competed at a tournament in Baird at the start of the season.
The Lady Cubs finished eighth in their first tournament of the year on Thursday, Feb. 27, but then won at the Panther Pride Golf Tournament in Seymour on Thursday, Feb. 6.
During the meet at Seymour, the Lady Cubs defeated all other teams with an overall score of 498. Albany was second with a 500 and Munday was third with a 522. Kortney Kulhanek was fifth medalist with a 115. Sydney Montgomery shot a 123, Abbie Bueno had a 127 and Abbie Ferguson shot a 133.
At Baird, the Lady Cubs finished eighth with a team score of 522. Kulhanek shot a 127, Montgomery had a 131, Bueno ended with a 132, Ferguson shot a 132 and Makenzie Cook had a 140.
Olney’s Lady Cubs play again Wednesday, March 19, at the Jim Ned Invitational before hosting other area girls’ teams at the Olney Invitational on Monday, March 24.
Olney’s boys won the Panther Pride Golf Tournament played Wednesday and Thursday, March 5-6, at Seymour. Two individuals also participated earlier in the year at a meet in Baird.
At Shady Oaks Country Club in Baird on Thursday, Feb. 27, three Cubs were among 58 participants to play a round. John Sprague was fourth medalist with an 80, followed by Jesse Baze as sixth medalist with an 82 and Race Ricketts as 31st medalist with a 111.
The Cubs racked up 336 points to lead Quanah with 364, Seymour with 435 and Electra with a 499 at the Seymour meet.
Base was second medalist with an 80, followed by Tanner Thompson as third medalist with an 81, John Sprague as fifth medalist with an 83, Clay Sprague with a 92 and Carson Fite with a 94.
Other Olney individuals were Riley Rollans, who shot an 87; Ricketts, who had a 105; and Cody Harvey, who shot a 109.
The Cubs play in the Hirschi Invitational Friday, March 14, and then in the Jim Ned Invitational on Wednesday, March 19. On Tuesday, March 25, they will host the boys’ portion of the Olney Invitational Golf Tournament.
