The Reverend Harold August Heckmann, born Sept. 9, 1920, was called home by his Heavenly Father on July 22, 2014. His goal in life, after Jesus made him fit for heaven, was to use his life in service to God caring for his family and serving others as a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod in nine parishes: two in Idaho (Parma, Homedale), seven in Texas (Littlefield, Harlingen, Houston-St Stephen, Olney, Graham, Houston-Pilgrim, Cleveland), and reaching out to others with the good news of Jesus.

Preceding him in death were his father and mother, Edwin August and Concordia Mueller Heckmann; four brothers, Walter, Carl, Paul, Eugene; sister Hilda; and daughter-in-law Paula. 

Surviving him are his precious wife of 69 years, Della nee Dieterich; children and spouses, Gary, Kathleen (Larry), Michael (Nancy), Lynette, Ronald (Valerie), Timothy (Annette), 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren. Survived also by his sister Doris De Young (Kenneth); brother Robert (Marie); sister-in-law Joyce; brothers-in-law Ernest Dieterich, Kenneth Dieterich (Elizabeth); sisters-in-law Dorothy Dieterich, Florence Synatschk Shockley, Helen Dieterich; former sister-in-law Carol Dieterich, and their families.

Visitation was at Klein Funeral Home, 9719 Wortham Blvd., Houston, Friday July 25, 4-8 p.m. Private family burial was Saturday, July 26.  Memorial Service is Sunday, Aug. 3, 3:30 p.m., St. John Lutheran Church, 15235 Spring Cypress Road, Cypress.  


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Concordia University Texas/E.A. Heckmann Scholarship Fund (11400 Concordia University Dr, Austin, TX 78726) and Texas Church Extension Fund (7900 East Highway 290, Austin, TX 78724).
