Ruth Baker Young, 88, died on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Grace Care Center in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas, with Andy Graham, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Ruth was born on Feb. 14, 1926, in Burkburnett, Texas, to the late R.B. and Altie Mae (Denton) Baker. She was a 1947 graduate of the Wichita General Hospital School of Nursing and had worked as a Registered Nurse for 62 years at local hospitals and nursing homes. She was Past President of Wichita General Hospital Alumni Association. She was Director of Nurses at Seven Oaks Nursing Home in Olney for 15 years. She joined the Order of the Eastern Star Faith Chapter of Wichita Falls in 1949 and served as a Post Matron. Ruth was a member of the Ladies Golf Association of Olney and a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Olney. She married Harry W. Young on Sept. 14, 1946, in Olney. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2008. She was also preceded in death by five brothers: Kenneth Baker, W.L. Baker, Louis Baker, R.B. Baker and Roy Lee Baker; and one sister, Edith McGaughy.
Ruth is survived by her two sons: Robert Young and wife, Jackie, of Fort Worth and Harry Young, Jr. and friend, Robin Greer, of Burleson; daughter, Joni Barron of Ft. Worth; sister, Zola Mae Owens of Olney; five grandchildren: Doni Barron of Brownwood, Jason Barron and wife, Virginia, of Menard, Jennifer McDermott and husband, James, of Menard, Tai Shelton and husband, Jerry, of Mesquite, Callie Young of Longview; six great-grandchildren: Kennedy R. Barron, Channing A. Barron, Noah M. Barron, Nathan R. Barron, Anthony Hardeman and Sidney Hardeman.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
