Funeral services for Frank Edward Hinson, age 77, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday May 7, 2014, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Olney, Texas, with Rev. Sean Reeves, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Frank was born Nov. 11, 1936, in Salem, Young County, Texas, to Sam Millard and Ida Mae Hinson. He attended elementary schools in Graham, Texas, and then attended and graduated from Olney High School in 1955. Frank played football and ran track while in high school and went to state competition in 1954 for Olney in the 400 relay and the mile relay. He married Delores Polster of Megargel on Aug. 17, 1957, in Olney, Texas.
Frank worked in the oilfields in this area, working in Archer City, where he met his future wife, Delores, an Archer City Bank employee. The oil field work took them to Kermit, Texas, and later to Odessa, Texas, where Frank became a lab technologist. He worked at the hospital in Odessa for several years then moved to Olney, Texas, and continued in that field of work at Hamilton Hospital for over 25 years. He worked for approximately 10 years at Olney Savings and Loan Association as the supply clerk for all their branches. During all this time he also enjoyed his favorite hobby of farming and ranching. This was at the farm just outside Olney, and also at the Polster family farm just north of Megargel. Frank also loved working with wood, making many beautiful pieces of furniture for the family.
Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and enjoyed family time at any opportunity that arose. He loved kids and sports. Frank coached Little League Baseball. He was an avid sports fan and followed football when sons Alan and Kyle played. Frank continued all through the years watching his grandchildren in all their sporting events. He attended all their basketball, baseball, softball and football games. He even attended basketball games this past season, even though it was physically hard for him.
After 18 years of pain and suffering, Grandpa made it to heaven on Monday, May 5, 2014, where he no longer will be in pain. Tractor Grandpa was a very stubborn-headed man, but had a BIG heart. Our family get-togethers will not be the same, but we will smile because he is dancing in heaven with Jesus.
Frank was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Olney, Texas, where he served as an elder. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ida Mae (Ratcliffe) and Sam Millard Hinson; and his brothers and sisters: Mildred Viola Hinson Gilmore, Dora Adell Hinson Jackson, Ollie Mae Hinson, Mary Pauline Hinson Gilmore, Maudie Lometa Hinson King, Sam Millard Hinson Jr. Ona Faye Hinson Goree and Ralph Dale Hinson.
