Vernon H. Mahler, age 87, died Sunday, March 2, 2014, in Throckmorton County Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the Elbert Baptist Church with Jay Gage, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Elbert, and Marty Light, pastor of the Elbert Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Elbert Cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney. 

Vernon was born one of the “Mahler Triplets” on July 13, 1926, in Olney, Texas, to the late Sheridan and Versie (Nimmo) Mahler. He served in the United States Navy with his brothers during World War II. He married Reba Lee Manuel Aug. 17, 1950, in Olney, Texas. 


Vernon owned and operated Mahler Pipe & Supply Co. for 22 years before his retirement. He moved to Elbert in 2005 from Rule, Texas, where he had lived for nearly 30 years, and was an active supporter and volunteer in church and school activities. He was a Freemason for over 50 years, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elbert. Vernon is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Herman and Thurman Mahler; and a daughter, Teresa Cornelius.    

He is survived by his wife, Reba, of Elbert; two grandchildren, Melissa Cornelius of San Angelo, Texas, and Jeff Cornelius and wife Darcy of Abilene, Texas; and four great-grandchildren: Callan Connally, Dakota Donaldson, Dalton Donaldson and Vernon Garrett Cornelius.

Family visitation will be Tuesday, March 4, 2014, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
