Blanche Burgess, age 91, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in Wichita Falls, Texas. A private family committal service will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Stigler City Cemetery in Stigler, Okla. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney. 

Blanche was born on Nov. 24, 1922, in Stigler, Okla., to the late Ruby Almedia (Coleman) and Lester McCurtain Cooper, Sr. She received her bachelor of science in education from West Texas State University in 1964 and began her 26 year teaching career. Blanche taught in Pringle, Texas, Plemons, Texas, and Stinnett, Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Borger, Texas, and was very involved in church activities.


 She and Leonard Burgess were married on July 28, 1941. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1984. She moved to Olney, Texas, in 2008 from McAlester, Okla. 

Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers: Lester Cooper, Jim Cooper and Jack Cooper. 

Blanche is survived by her two daughters: Suzanne Baker and husband Bud of Borger, Texas, and Mahana Andrew and husband Robert of Olney, Texas; five grandchildren: Misty Wilson and husband Kelly of Mineral Wells, Texas, Randy Green and wife Christina of Borger, Texas, Craig Andrew and wife Jaclyn of Wichita Falls, Texas, Kelli Mikkelson and husband Robert of Lewisville, Texas and Kyle Andrew of Lewisville, Texas; nine great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Wilson, Mollie Wilson, Emily Wilson, Hannah Green, Lydia Green, Josiah Green, Rachel Green, Jacey Andrew, Lane Andrew and Finley Mikkelson, arriving in May.
