Bea Nix died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, in Olney Health Care Center in Olney, Texas. She celebrated 105 glorious years on this earth. She was born in Pecos, Texas, on June 22, 1908, to Benjamin William Plummer and Mary Samantha Ensey Plummer.
As a young girl, Bea traveled with her family between Texas and Arkansas in a covered wagon. She told many stories of farm life and how she helped pick cotton, milk cows, churn butter and make soap. She married Bob Nix on July 18, 1931, in Seymour, Texas. Together they had two sons, Delmer Douglas Nix, born Dec. 28, 1932, and Doyce Brian Nix, born Feb. 20, 1938.
She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Seymour. She served her church in many ways and was most proud of her role in organizing and cooking for families during their time of need and for funerals. She also volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Seymour Hospital. Her favorite hobbies were quilting, crocheting and playing canasta.
Bea was a wonderful cook and always had plenty of home grown vegetables from her large garden, fruit from her many trees and grape vines, and a never ending supply of hot rolls. There were always lots of family and friends in her home and at her table.
She was one of 13 brothers and sisters. They include Willie Plummer, Irene Plummer, Eva Smith, Effie Johnson, Oscar Plummer, Jim Plummer, Clifford Plummer, Nat Scott, Velma Crain, Ula Mayers, Glenn Plummer and Nelda Taylor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons and all of her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include daughter-in-law Janet Nix of Throckmorton; five grandchildren: Greg Nix of Austin, David Nix of Euless, Susan George of Monterey, Calif., Angela Koemel of Thockmorton and Rachel Nix of Gainesville, Mo.; 10 great-grandchildren: Josh Nix and Bryce Nix of Austin, Toni Nix of Sacramento, Calif., Matthew George and Jacob George of Monterey, Calif., Newt Koemel, Alayna Koemel and Kolt Koemel of Throckmorton, and Tullita Nix and Dove Nix of Gainesville, Mo.; and two great-great-grandsons. She also has many nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly.
Services will be held Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Seymour under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Pallbearers include Newt Koemel, Kolt Koemel, Josh Nix, Bryce Nix, Eddie Crain, Monte Young, Billie Slaggle and Jimmy Mayers. Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 6 p.m. at Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
