Philipp, Craig in runoff for Pct 3

Olney voters sent Scott “Scooter” Philipp and Alan Craig to a May 28 runoff for the Precinct 3 Commissioner’s job that Stacey Rogers will vacate next year.

Mr. Philipp won 39.6 percent of the County vote, compared with 44.65 percent for Mr. Craig.

The winner will not face a general election opponent.

Mr. Philipp, former U.S. Marine Corps veteran, works as a farmer- rancher and runs a hay business.

He previously worked as a hand for Mr. Rogers at Precinct 3, and challenged him for the seat in 2020.

Mr. Craig has owned and operated Craig Drilling LLC, a company that provides well servicing, pole line construction and dirt contracting.

Mr. Craig has a bachelors degree in engineering from Texas Tech University.

The two top candidates defeated Dickie “Coach” Scott in the three-way GOP primary.

Mr. Rogers chose to retire after serving four terms as Commissioner. He advised that the next commissioner “will need to be available all day and work alongside the road and bridge employees ... formal business training and a work ethic.”
