The Lamb of God

The Lamb of God

“He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’” Matthew 16:15 NASB

Dear Reader, May the grace of God lead you to ponder these words for just a brief moment: Jesus, the Son of God.

It’s undeniable that this name has circulated the entire world for thousands of years. Furthermore, when the name Jesus Christ is spoken and understood in its true biblical context, it is also the most controversial name. For it confronts the entire world in its sin, from a newborn baby who screams for its mother’s breast, to an elderly man who is about to draw his last breath.

But beyond any shadow of a doubt, with the truth claims that He has made, everyone must answer this question. Was Jesus just a man born of an earthly woman with a earthly father as you and I, or was He born of a supernatural birth, apart from any earthly man? This is exactly what the disciples of Jesus Christ had to answer.

The scriptures tell us, “When Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”

He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.

And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”

You see, the disciples truly had to answer this question. Was Jesus God or was he just like any ordinary man, that is, born into a physical body corrupted by sin?

This is why I opened with the statement, “Dear reader, may the grace of God lead you to ponder these words for just a brief moment: “Jesus, the Son of God.”

Reader, according to the Bible, your eternity hangs in the balance between this question. And by this alone, you are either under grace or judgment.

The truth is, we all deserve judgment. There’s not one among us who has not by thought engaged in the grossest of all the moralities. Anyone who disagrees has already demonstrated their lack of understanding. They have denied the fact that their inward corruption is hidden in the secret of their hearts, and their conscience is bearing witness to this truth as we speak.

Understand, no one born of an earthly man has ever fulfilled the righteous demands of God’s law, which, my friend, demands perfection. But the author of Hebrews tells us something different concerning Jesus saying, “For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens.”

You see the author said “it was fitting for us” because we have sin in our lives, but Jesus was “holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens.”

Therefore, understand, His birth was not that of natural man, but that which was born of the Spirit, by supernatural means in the womb of His mother, Mary. The Bible tells us, “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death.”

“For He had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.”

Despite the fact that the death occurred in Jerusalem almost two thousand years ago, the efficacy of his blood is still effective in eradicating sin today, just as it was in the moment it was shed.

Remember that Jesus continues to wear the vestment that has been dipped in blood, and right now, even as I write this devotion, He stands as the Lamb slain before God, interceding on behalf of those who love Him. For indeed, Jesus is still the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world, and He alone bridges the unreachable gap between God and man.

Again I ask, “Who do you say Jesus is?” Please, consider your ways, your thoughts, your words and your actions.

Let the truth show you the desperation of your corrupt heart, just as it did mine.

May this small devotion drive you to the cross to see a bleeding Savior, perishing on your behalf.

Come to Jesus today, that you may be saved.
