Freezin’ for a Reason needs crafts for auction

The Freezin’ For A Reason charity golf tournament is looking for items for the group’s silent auction, which raises funds for local American Cancer Society patients. The annual tournament is set for March 2 at the Olney Country Club.

Freezin’ For A Reason was initially created as part of a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Due to the lack of funds available for some of our local ACS patients, we decided to keep it local. Since 2013, the golf scramble, raffle, silent auction, meal and dance has been a yearly event for our community.

Over the past 10 years, FFAR has raised enough funds that we have donated over $70,000 to people of Olney. This includes people who were/are battling cancer, suffering from other medical issues, or personal tragedies. We donate several memorials to other local organizations in honor of people in our community. We have also given to local organizations, such as Olney Community Library, The Refugee, local churches, Olney PTO school supplies, the backpack program, and the senior cub center.

Over the last 3 years we have also created scholarships. Thus far, we have given nine students $1,000 scholarships. The goal each year has been to give 3 scholarships. With your continued support, we can keep this going. Our biggest fundraiser is the golf scramble with a silent auction. This is a great opportunity for local business owners to promote their entities and give back to the community all at the same time. We will take silent auction items up to the day of the tournament.

If anyone would like to donate silent auction items please contact Katie Rowe. Freezin’ for A Reason board members are Katie Rowe, Kalynn Philipp, Brook McElroy, Susan McElroy, Chelsey Garcia, Haylie Pittman, and Malia Cawthon. We would like to give a shout out to Kim Stephens and Phyllis Lee for always doing the meal each year as well as Chris Widner, who donates his time and skills to D.J. the event.

We appreciate this wonderful community’s support! This event would not be possible without your help.
