Coty Wayman indicted on capital murder charges

Olney native George Coty Wayman has been indicted on capital murder charges by a grand jury in connection with the shooting  death of his 3-year old step son, Dominic Castro. Wayman, who is 18 years old, was arrested by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office in May.

Witnesses initially told investigators that Dominic was jumping on the bed and that the jumping had caused the gun to go off accidentally. Interviews have revealed that Wayman allegedly pointed the gun at the boy and threatened to shoot him if he didn’t stop jumping. Clay County Sheriff Kenny Lemons said that Wayman then fired the gun and struck Dominic in the back of the head.

A conviction of Capital murder can carry a sentence up to the death penalty in Texas if pursued by prosecutors. No further court date has been set at this time.
