Tom Griffin Park could soon become home to a disc golf course thanks to the efforts of a few local and area citizens. Justin Bruce of Bryson and Kevin Gipson of Olney attended the Monday, Aug. 11, meeting of the Olney City Council and got the green light to move forward with their plans to install a disc golf course at the city’s largest park.
“We had the idea of this about two years ago,” Bruce said. “That area of Tom Griffin Park is such a large area.”
He and Gipson, avid disc golfers who travel to courses around the area to play, said they got serious about their efforts about three months ago. They measured distances for potential tee box and cage sites at the park and came up with a plan. Then, one month or so ago, they heard of the approval of a plan to install a walking track at the same park north of the creek.
Their plan is for an 18-hole disc golf course that is made up of nine actual holes with different tee sites on the reverse side.
