Recent weather conditions have slowed reconstruction work on the track at Cub Stadium, and that slow-down could cost the Cubs some home games at the start of the 2014 season. Dr. Greg Roach, superintendent at Olney ISD, said Monday afternoon that the work at the track is progressing well, but had originally been intended to be done by the start of the season.

“We have experienced delays because of rain,” Roach said. “We were pleased with that rain.”

However welcome the rainfall was, Roach said it has put a damper on track progress and will now, at least, take the Cubs on the road for their first two scrimmages. The first scrimmage will go on as originally scheduled at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Jacksboro, but the planned home scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 21, will now be played at 6 p.m. at Nocona. Olney’s first regular season game will still be played at Baird on Aug. 29, followed by a previously scheduled game on the road at Petrolia Friday, Sept. 5.

The Cubs were scheduled for their first home game on Friday, Sept. 12, and Roach said that is still the goal.
