OJH takes 2nd in TMSCA State Qualifying Meet in Olney

Olney Junior High School hosted the annual TMSCA State Qualifying Math & Science Meet on Saturday, Feb. 24, taking second-place honors and adding three state qualifiers.

More than 200 students from 13 schools assembled on the OJH campus to test their Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Mathematics and Science knowledge.

The OJH Math and Science team added three state qualifiers; Adrian Melchor, Pedro Gonzalez, and Jaxon Bedford.

This brings the total to 30 students to represent Olney at the state meet in April.

Olney Junior High earned the 2nd place sweepstakes honors, being edged out by 5A Wylie West Junior High of Abilene.

The Calculator Applications team achieved second place with some big improvements from the previous week.

The Number Sense, Mathematics and Science teams all earned third place.

Individual students earning top ten in their grade level include:

8th Grade: Number Sense: Mackenzie Berngen - 7th place; Calculator Applications: A.J. Solano -5th place, Adrian Melchor 8th place, Crayton Nash - 9th place.

Mathematics: Mackenzie Berngen - 5th place, Shaine Grard - 7th place, Will Cafey - 10th place.

Science: Jackson Spurlock - 3rd place.

7th Grade:

Number Sense: Jett Brock - 7th place.

Calculator Applications: Harris Sullivan 3rd place.

Mathematics: Jett Brock - 2nd place.

Science: Odin Savard

- 7th place; Jett Brock 10th place.

6th Grade:

Number Sense: Zeph Tejada - 1st place, Trent Berngen - 8th place, Zayden Adkins - 9th place.

Calculator Applications: Zeph Tejada - 2nd place, Jaxon Bedford 5th place, Laney Kimbro - 8th place.

Mathematics: Zeph Tejada - 3rd place, Trent Berngen - 4th place, Jaxon Bedford - 6th place.

Science: Trent Berngen - 2nd place, Laney Kimbro - 6th place, Clara Symank - 10th place.
