March Madness is here, and it’s time to get fit for free at the Refuge. It’s the perfect opportunity to get your fit on with longer days and excellent weather just around the corner. The current Physical Activity Guide for Americans suggests that adults get at least 150 minutes of physical activity every week, spending at least 75 minutes engaging in moderate to vigorous exercise. Why not get your minutes at the Refuge?

Located at 1418 W. Elm, the 28,000 sq. ft. facility is a wonderful place to hang out, and the Refuge community center has allocated more than 11,000 sq. ft. for all sorts of physical activity. There are two large gyms with basketball goals and a large weight room with various fitness equipment such as treadmills, stationary bicycles, elliptical machines, a rowing machine, and much more. For all lovers of resistance training, there are both free weights and cable weights. You must plan a visit to see the facility and all it offers.

You’re welcome to visit during business hours, 11 a.m. -7 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays; 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Wednesdays; 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays. You may work out independently or schedule time with me to introduce you to the equipment and get you started on a training plan. If you prefer to work out with a group, please drop by one of the classes I teach on weekday mornings at 6 a.m. We have aerobics dance on Mondays, Step on Wednesdays, and Fitness Bootcamp on Fridays. We plan to offer spin classes soon. The classes are free and open to women and young ladies 16 and older. Regular physical activity is one of the most important ways to invest in yourself because health is wealth. Even if you can only commit to 20 minutes a day three times a week, that is an excellent start to improve brain health, strengthen your muscles, and improve your mental health, among other benefits.
