Freddy and Lucille Horany will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Jan. 2, 2014. Freddy Horany and Lucille Shamas were married on Jan. 2, 1944, in Archer City. They moved to Roswell, N.M., where Freddy was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. In 1945, after Freddy was discharged, they moved to Archer City, where Freddy worked in the oilfield. They moved to Olney in 1947. Freddy and his brother, Johnny, purchased an interest in Horany's Department Store from Ray Horany. In 1970, Ray sold that interest to his brothers. Freddy worked at Horany's for more than 50 years, until he and Johnny liquidated the store in 1996 and he retired. Lucille was a homemaker, a devoted wife and mother who loved to cook. Home and family have always been of the utmost importance to Freddy and Lucille. They have four children: Freddy K. Horany of Burleson, Patricia Cooper and husband Jerry of Burleson, Nancy Hildebrandt of Roswell, N.M., and Mark Horany and wife Connie of Olney. They have 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
