A home was severely damaged early Monday, Jan. 20, when a fire broke out in a storage building and quickly spread to the main house. The blaze at 401 W. Grove was reported at 4:23 a.m. Monday.

“It started in the outbuilding,” Ronnie Cowart, fire marshal, said of the fire, which he suspects to have been electrical in nature. “The only thing out there was a light.”

Once the fire was under way, Cowart said the grass quickly caught on fire and the flames spread to the back of the house. He said the outbuilding was destroyed and there was major fire damage to the back portion of the house. The remainder of the home sustained heavy smoke damage.
