The Cubs started their District 3-A D1 opener with a bang, running out to an early 6-0 lead over the Seymour Panthers on Friday, Oct. 11. However, the Panthers regrouped before the half and ran away with the game to give Olney a 60-14 district loss.
So far this season, the Cubs' record stands at 0-7, and 0-1 in district play.
Mike Clark got Olney on the board with six minutes left in the first quarter. His 2 yard run was followed by a failed two-point conversion attempt to leave Olney up 6-0.
Seymour recovered slowly, and with two minutes left in the first, the Panthers scored. Seymour followed it up with two more points to take an 8-6 lead heading into the second quarter.
During the second quarter, Seymour struck first and took a 14-6 lead with 10 minutes remaining.
Then, two short minutes later, Joe Tatum received a pass from Taylor Thomas and took off down the field. He shook off four attempted tackles on his 78 yard trip to the end zone.
A two-point pass from Thomas to Calvin Ward was good to tie the game at 14-14.
