Though Olney got on the board first, the Electra Tigers came back in a big way to ruin Olney's homecoming Friday, Oct. 4, and handed the Cubs a 51-28 loss. Seniors Mike Clark and Taylor Thomas accounted for Olney's four touchdowns during the match.
During the first quarter, the Cubs shocked the Tigers by getting into the end zone to take a 6-0 lead. Thomas popped out of a pile of players and ran in for the touchdown.
“We were trying to get a half a yard and he got 61,” Coach Hugh Farmer said.
In the second quarter, Clark scored on a 5 yard pass from Thomas.
The pair repeated their performances in the second half, with Thomas scoring on a short run in the third and Clark posting points on a 17 yard pass from Thomas in the fourth. Two-point conversion attempts were successful in the third and fourth quarters, with Thomas getting into the end zone on each try.
This week, the Cubs enter into 3-1A D1 play versus the Seymour Panthers. Seymour enters the match with a 5-1 record, with that single loss coming at the hands of top-ranked Stamford last week.
Kickoff for Olney's home game versus the Panthers is set for 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11.(For more of this story, check out this week's edition)
