An Archer County Grand Jury recently failed to return an indictment on anyone in the death of 54-year-old Billy Jack Stevens of Megargel.

Stevens was reportedly found dead near his pickup in a yard in the 600 block of Fifth Street in Megargel on April 23. He was discovered by an individual who was passing by the scene.

An Archer County Sheriff’s Office investigator said in May that Stevens’ injuries were consistent with blunt-force trauma. He also noted that no weapons were found and that alcohol did appear to be a factor in the incident.

All evidence was turned over to the grand jury, which ruled that evidence was insufficient to proceed any further with an indictment against the individual or individuals believed to be responsible.

No suspects were ever named or arrested, and criminal charges will not be pursued further.
