Olney Hamilton Hospital District’s campaign to expand into southern Archer County has ended, with the local hospital board choosing to pull the plug on those efforts due to lack of support from Archer County residents. Work to expand the district was a part of the board’s three- to five-year plan, and began a few months ago with the attainment of the required number of signatures to signal interest in the formation of a district that would encompass Megargel, Archer City, Windthorst and points in between.

“The board considered Archer County’s use of the hospital,” Administrator Mike Huff said of the decision to seek the expansion election. “We have a clinic in Archer City. In addition to that, we do over $300,000 in services per year in Archer County we don’t get reimbursed for.”

Huff said it seemed only logical to move forward with plans to expand the district and recoup some of that funding. The Hospital Board also pledged to continue offering care at the Archer Family Clinic, as well as aiding the ambulance service, adding a pharmacy and potentially serving the area through construction of a regional hospital in Olney.
